Blending craft cocktails, community, and character at the Niner | By Like Media Team

In downtown Sandpoint, the 219 Lounge, known affectionately as “the Niner,” has been part of the city’s fabric since 1934.

Following a complete remodel in 2017, the bar returned to its 1930s roots with a design that honors its past while embracing modern comfort. The result is a refined “High Dive Bar” atmosphere that blends character with quality. If you haven’t stopped in for a while, you may be surprised by just how much has changed since the remodel. “We’ve combined gritty charm, affordable drinks, and a laid-back attitude with a large selection of rotating craft beers, top-shelf whiskies and spirits, artisanal and classic cocktails, and eclectic décor, all without losing that unpretentious, everyone-is-welcome vibe,” says Mel Dick, co-owner of the 219.

Inside, the mood is warm, familiar, and welcoming. Vintage details, comfortable seating, and soft lighting create a space where regulars and visitors alike feel at home. Its historic grit remains part of the charm, but these days the Niner is defined just as much by its warmth, hospitality, and easygoing spirit. Guests can settle in with a drink and enjoy a game of pool or foosball, adding to the bar’s relaxed, social energy. “Our bartenders are friendly, focused, and professional,” says Zac Manor, a longtime 219 bartender who was recently promoted to general manager. “Each one has been here for several years and is part of the community.” That sense of familiarity helps define the experience.

“Whether you want to kick back with a draft Pabst Blue Ribbon, a can of Hamm’s, or a simple vodka soda or rum and Coke, the Niner is still your place,” says Zac. “And if you’re looking for a great craft beer, a rare bourbon, a standout margarita, or a classic cocktail such as a Manhattan or Old Fashioned, the Niner is your place for that, too.”

The Niner offers both classic favorites and creative seasonal cocktails, including alcoholic and nonalcoholic options, all crafted with high-quality ingredients and attention to detail. It is also the only place in town to offer a late-night happy hour from 9 to 11 pm, a tradition that keeps the atmosphere lively well into the evening.

Music plays a defining role at the Niner, with live performances on most Friday and Saturday evenings featuring local, regional, and national touring acts. During many music events, the Niner also hosts food trucks, giving guests another reason to stay awhile and make an evening of it. “For a bar in this area, that’s something special, and the outdoor patio and bar come alive with music on summer nights,” says Mel. Over time, the Niner has become a community gathering place where people come together over live music, good drinks, and great company.

Customer reviews consistently reflect the same themes: friendly staff, great service, and a setting that feels genuinely authentic to Sandpoint. Patrons often praise the bar’s welcoming energy and attention to detail, noting its clean, comfortable environment and familiar faces behind the counter.

More than a bar, the 219 Lounge represents a piece of Sandpoint’s identity. It’s where history and hospitality come together, where tradition feels alive, and where every visit reminds you why some places never lose their charm.
